About the work
In the spring of 2020, inspired by the COVID-19 quarantine, theatrical performance becomes a process — not a finished work, but a responsive system that is constantly renewing itself. The actors log in directly from their homes and perform a play streamed to the audience in real time. Delays, glitches, and intimacy in virtual space become the live dramaturgy.
The play transports us to the year 2220 – in the perfectly organised country of Monaksia… However, the context of the present day brings a socio-political dimension: the violence of lukashenko regime in Belarus, the poisoning of Alexei Navalny, and the criminalization of protests.
The performance was projected directly onto the windshield of a “Zhiguli”, parked in front of the russian embassy, where v.putin (a mannequin) was sitting. The long-unspoken truths of Monaksia return as action: #PROTEST.
This period feels historic and it’s shaping us in new ways. A dreadful disease, psychological isolation, mechanisms of fear, paranoia, and uncertainty. While doctors are fighting the disease at the front lines, artists can try to combat people’s loneliness
