About the work
Isn’t piano a beautiful instrument? It carries with it a long history of virtuosity, refinement and a certain idea of musical prestige. However, here, we’re entering to a new set: a live pianist and an autonomous Disklavier meet on stage. They interact, but their dialogue seems like a toxic relationship. Whereas the musician fights for emancipation and new performative experiments, the machine tries to lock her in the past. Their dialogue becomes a jubilatory fight between human and machine.
After the performance, the audience is invited onto the stage: the instruments, sound, light and image keep running, and control over them is handed over to the audience. The mechanics of the work become an open instrument.
Our relationship with the machine could create a general schizophrenic planet because we are losing a certain type of relationship with the world. And I don’t know if it’s dangerous. I mean, I live with my time. I also used AI in this project.
