Absolute World

Poetic sound composition „Absolute World“. The history of Kaunas’ Aleksotas and Old Town districts immerses the viewer in the intellectual world of Herman Minkowski (1864–1909), a world-renowned scientist who spent his childhood years in Kaunas. The programme explores the links between Kaunas and the scientific legacy of Minkowski, who gave birth to Einstein’s theory of relativity. The route along the Vytautas the Great Bridge, leading from H. and O. Minkovski Street, where the mathematician lived as a child, to the then Kaunas Gubernia Gymnasium (now Kaunas Maironis University Gymnasium), where Minkowski was a student, became the starting point of the programme. After all, at that time it was a bridge not only between two banks, but also between two calendars — Gregorian and Julian. Twelve days separated the two shores. Could this have contributed to Minkowski’s perception of time and space, which revolutionised physics?
