LETARGIJA

MMLAB

Installation | 15 min.

A sluggish sleep difficult to wake up from. A state resembling death. Life functions stop, but the brain stays active. The body remains unchanged, but upon waking, it quickly grows old.

Binaural sound, fragments of sci-fi plots, futuristic objects, and their glow immerse the listener-viewer in lethargic states.

Concept and music by Andrius Šiurys, set designer – Oles Makukhin, lighting designer – Ignas Rulevičius

HERE HEAR

EDVINAS SILIŪNAS, AGNĖ NEMANYTĖ

Sound sculpture | The result of the “Kosmos LAB’23” workshop

“After long nights and days, discussions, teamwork, searching for moss, modelling, and recording sounds by the Vilnelė River, at the Cathedral, near the station (in a corner filled with pigeons), and Edvinas’s sleepless nights spent working on audio recordings and programming — a sculpture was born, and director and composer H. Goebbels attended its presentation.” – AGNĖ NEMANYTĖ.

Sound is all around us — there is no space on Earth where there is no sound. Even in a completely isolated room, without any external sound, after a while we would hear our own heartbeat and breathing. The connection between the body and sound is inseparable. Sound is born, changes, expands, or contracts through a person’s physical presence and movement in space.

This sculpture creates a soundscape not only through a pre-written composition but also through a person’s physical presence and movement in space. In this way, it is a perceptual (and physical) experience, a social event, and a private empirical act — by its very nature, both enveloping and emerging from within.

A piece for piano, two cameras, and seven objects

Can we hear sound in an image and see an image in sound? When are these two media working together, and when separately? How quickly do we get distracted?

In the age of visual culture, artists from different fields use the image as one of the instruments to create a cohesive, live-performed chamber piece, combining the practices of a musician, camera operators, an editor, and a performing artist.

CONCERT AND INSTALLATION FOR PIANO AND A PIECE OF FURNITURE

KOSMOS THEATRE

Concert and installation for piano and furniture | 45 min.

Croatian pianist Ivo Pogorelich once said that a piano without a pianist is merely a piece of furniture. It stands in the home, usually laden with vases and dishes, and its true concert and musical potential, regardless of its maker or mechanics, is determined by the people around it.

A concert of fragments from the most important works of piano music, in which live music becomes the sound dream of a transformed piece of furniture.

Pianist – Julija Vingelė, director – Žilvinas Vingelis, composers: Andrius Šiurys, Domantas Pūras, engineer – Deividas Dzikevičius.
